What each scheme is worth
We guide the application and handle the installer paperwork as part of the job. Below is what the three main schemes are worth — and the conditions that actually decide whether you qualify.
Homeowners
€1,800maximum grant
SEAI Solar PV Grant
Paid at €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp, then €200 per additional kWp up to 4 kWp.
Home must have been built and occupied before 1 January 2021.
Businesses & community
€162,600maximum grant
SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme
Supports non-domestic systems up to 1000 kWp. Rates are tiered — the per-kWp rate steps down as the system gets larger.
Open to businesses, farms, schools, public bodies and non-profits.

Solar Capital Investment Scheme (SCIS) under TAMS 3
Grant-aided at 60% against a ring-fenced investment ceiling of €90,000. Systems supported up to 62 kWp.

The grant was confirmed to stay at €1,800 for 2026 — the first year since the scheme began that the rate has not been reduced.
The rules that catch people out
- Apply to SEAI before any work starts — installations that begin early are not eligible
- You have 8 months from grant approval to complete the installation
- One solar grant per property (MPRN) — homes where solar was previously grant-aided do not qualify again
- Homes built after 31 December 2020 are not eligible
Businesses & organisations — SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme
Up to €162,600
How it works
- Supports systems up to 1000 kWp (1 MW) — the largest installations attract the full €162,600
- The rate per kWp is tiered — it steps down as the system gets larger, so smaller systems get proportionally more support
- Open to businesses, farms, schools, public bodies, community groups and non-profits

Farms — Solar Capital Investment Scheme (SCIS) under TAMS 3
60% of costs, max €54,000
How it works
- 60% grant rate against a ring-fenced €90,000 investment ceiling — maximum grant €54,000
- The ceiling is ring-fenced, so it does not use up your other TAMS investment ceilings
- Systems up to 62 kWp; battery storage eligible up to 50% of the solar output
- Cannot be combined with the SEAI Non-Domestic grant for the same investment
2026 deadlines
TAMS runs in tranches. The remaining application deadlines for 2026 are4 September 2026 and 4 December 2026. An application submitted after a tranche closes simply rolls into the next one — but approval, and your installation, move back with it.
Administered by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, not SEAI — a different portal, different documentation and different timelines. Your farm advisor lodges the application — we supply the system specs, quotes and documentation it needs.
Around the grant
The facts people ask about alongside the grant
0% VAT for homes
0% VAT applies to the supply and installation of solar panels on private dwellings (since 1 May 2023, still in force).
Export income is tax-free to €400
Exported units are paid at supplier Clean Export Guarantee rates — currently around 15–20c/kWh — and the first €400 of that income each year is exempt from income tax until the end of 2028.
There is no battery grant
The SEAI battery grant was withdrawn in February 2022. Batteries still often make financial sense — but anyone quoting you a battery "grant" today is out of date.
€300 EV charger grant
A separate home EV charger grant of up to €300 remains available (reduced from €600 in January 2024), and can be claimed alongside a solar installation.
The process
How an application actually runs
The paperwork is not difficult, but the sequencing is unforgiving. This is the part we take off your hands.

We check your eligibility
Build date, BER status, property type and scheme conditions. This takes minutes and rules out disappointment later.

We design and quote
The system is designed first, because the grant is calculated against what is actually being installed.
- 03
The application goes in
For the home grant you apply to SEAI yourself — a short online form we walk you through, with every detail it asks for supplied by us. For TAMS, your farm advisor lodges the application with our specs and quotes.

You wait for the offer letter
This is the step that catches people out. No work can begin until the grant offer is issued — starting early invalidates the claim.
- 05
We install and commission
Once the offer is in place, the installation proceeds and the system is commissioned and registered.
- 06
We complete the claim
Post-installation documentation is submitted and the grant is paid directly to you.
The one rule worth repeating
Do not start work before your grant offer letter is issued. It is the most common way an otherwise valid claim is lost, and it is entirely avoidable. We manage the sequencing so it does not happen.

Two things you will see stated incorrectly elsewhere
Commonly misstated
The TAMS farm grant is not "up to €90,000"
€90,000 is the ring-fenced investment ceiling — the maximum spend the grant is calculated against. At the 60% rate, the maximum grant payment is €54,000. We had this wrong on our own previous site and have corrected it.
Commonly out of date
The domestic per-kWp rates have changed
A lot of Irish sites still quote €900 per kWp for the first 2 kWp and €300 thereafter. Those figures are historic — and they do not even reconcile with the €1,800 cap they are quoted alongside. The current rates are €700 and €200.

Grant questions
How much is the SEAI solar grant for a home?
The SEAI Solar PV Grant is worth up to €1,800. It is paid at €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp installed, then €200 for each additional kWp up to 4 kWp. So a 2 kWp system attracts €1,400 and a 4 kWp or larger system attracts the full €1,800.
Is my home eligible for the SEAI grant?
Your home needs to be in Ireland and to have been built and occupied before 1 January 2021, you need a BER assessment on file (there is no minimum rating), and the work has to be carried out by an SEAI-registered installer. Lumen Solar is an SEAI-registered Solar PV company, so your installation qualifies.
Do you handle the grant paperwork?
We guide you through it. For the home solar grant, you apply to SEAI yourself — it is a short online application — and we give you every detail it asks for, then handle the installer declarations, the ESB Networks notification and the completion documents that release the payment. Whichever scheme applies, no work should start before your grant approval is issued — the SEAI letter of offer, or TAMS approval from the Department of Agriculture for farm projects. We make sure that sequencing is right.
What does home solar actually cost?
It depends on the roof and the equipment, which is why we quote from a survey rather than a price list. Domestic solar is zero-rated for VAT, and the €1,800 SEAI grant comes off what you pay. Your quotation names the exact equipment and the exact price, with the payback calculation and its assumptions written down.
Is the grant deducted from the price, or paid to me?
For the domestic SEAI grant, the money is normally paid to you by SEAI after the installation is completed and the post-works documentation — including the BER assessment — has been submitted. Your quotation from us shows the full price and the grant separately, so there is no ambiguity about what you pay and what comes back.
What grant support is available for a business?
The SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme supports non-domestic solar installations up to 1000 kWp, with a maximum grant of €162,600. Support is tiered by system size, so the rate per kWp reduces as the system gets larger. Businesses, farms, schools, public sector bodies, community groups and non-profits can all apply.
What grant is available for farm solar?
Farm solar is supported through the Solar Capital Investment Scheme (SCIS) under TAMS 3, administered by the Department of Agriculture rather than SEAI. It is grant-aided at 60% against a ring-fenced investment ceiling of €90,000 — so the maximum grant payable is €54,000. Systems are grant-aided up to 62 kWp, and battery storage is eligible up to 50% of the solar PV output in kWp.
