What could solar save? Run your own numbers
Most solar calculators hide their assumptions so the answer looks bigger. This one does the opposite: every slider below is an assumption you control, and the working is printed under the result.

Your bill shows your exact rate. 40c is the Irish household average incl. taxes,Eurostat H2 2025.
The single biggest lever. Home during the day, or running timers and a battery? Slide it up. Empty house all day and no battery? Slide it down. Your quote pins this down properly.
Standard CEG rates in mid-2026 cluster between about 15c and 20c per kWh. Rates differ by supplier and change through the year — check your supplier’s current rate. First €400/year of export income is tax-free until the end of 2028.

A range, because Irish yield genuinely varies year to year and roof to roof (850–900 kWh per kWp per year in the Midlands). What this deliberately leaves out: your roof's exact orientation and shading, tariff time-bands, and a battery — a survey and a written quote cover those.
The full method, and where each number comes from
Where these numbers come from. Two different kinds of figure appear below, and we label them differently on purpose. The household electricity price is a verified statistic —Eurostat, H2 2025, Ireland at €40.42 per 100 kWh against an EU average of €28.96. The yield range and export rate are planning ranges: working figures we use to size and explain systems, not measured statistics and not attributable to anyone else. Export rates in particular are set by each supplier and change through the year — check yours. Your survey replaces every planning range with figures for your actual roof.
- Generation = system size × 850–900 kWh per kWp per year (planning range — orientation, pitch and shading move it either way).
- Self-used units = generation × your self-use share, valued at your unit rate.
- Exported units = the rest, valued at your export rate.
- Saving = self-used value + export value. No inflation, degradation or price-rise assumptions are added — they'd flatter the number.
Solar will not eliminate a winter bill, and any quote should say so. What a well-designed system does is substantially cut what you buy across the year, weighted to the brighter two-thirds of it.
