The questions everyone asks first
Do solar panels work in Ireland?
Yes. Panels run on daylight rather than direct sunshine. A system in the Midlands generates around 850–900 kWh per kWp per year, so a typical 4 kWp home system produces 3,400–3,600 kWh/year. This is a working range we use for sizing and examples, not a measured statistic. Your survey replaces it with figures for your own roof. Northern Germany, on light levels close to ours, is one of the largest solar markets in the world.
What is the solar grant in Ireland?
Homes get an SEAI grant of up to €1,800 (home built before 2021). Businesses, farms and community buildings can claim up to €162,600 under the Non-Domestic scheme, and farmers can get 60% under TAMS 3, against a ring-fenced €90,000 investment ceiling, which caps the grant at €54,000. Whichever applies, we guide the application and handle the installer and completion paperwork.
Why is 2026 the year to look at it?
Irish households now pay the highest household electricity price in the EU — about ~40c/kWh, around 40% above the EU average (Eurostat, H2 2025). Every unit your roof generates is a unit you no longer buy at that price, and the home grant is confirmed at €1,800 for 2026 with reductions planned from 2027.

About Lumen Solar
Solar is all we do
We started as Lumen Engineering in 2013 and moved into solar because customers kept asking us for it. Now it is all we do.
Most of our work is houses, farm sheds and commercial roofs around the midlands, with the odd community job in between. We survey and design every system ourselves before we quote, and if solar is not worth it on your building we will tell you so.
The same crew handles the whole job from survey to aftercare. We do not sub the work out, so if something needs sorting years down the line you ring us and we sort it.
You are also welcome to call into the showroom at Blyry Business & Commercial Park in Athlone and have a proper look at the panels, inverters and batteries before you decide anything.

Homeowners

SEAI Solar PV Grant
Paid at €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp, then €200 per additional kWp up to 4 kWp.
Home must have been built and occupied before 1 January 2021.
Businesses & community
€162,600maximum grant
SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme
Supports non-domestic systems up to 1000 kWp. Rates are tiered, and the per-kWp rate steps down as the system gets larger.
Open to businesses, farms, schools, public bodies and non-profits.
Farms
€54,000maximum grant
Solar Capital Investment Scheme (SCIS) under TAMS 3
Grant-aided at 60% against a ring-fenced investment ceiling of €90,000. Systems supported up to 62 kWp.
Administered by the Department of Agriculture, not SEAI.
