Straight answers
The three questions everyone asks first
Do solar panels work in Ireland?
Yes. Panels run on daylight, not sunshine — a system in the Midlands generates around 850–900 kWh per kWp per year, so a typical 4 kWp home system produces 3,400–3,600 kWh/year. Germany, with similar light levels, is one of the largest solar markets in the world.
What is the solar grant in Ireland?
Homes get an SEAI grant of up to €1,800 (home built before 2021). Businesses, farms and community buildings can claim up to €162,600 under the Non-Domestic scheme, and farmers can get 60% of costs under TAMS 3. Whichever applies, we guide the application and handle the installer and completion paperwork.
Why is 2026 the year to look at it?
Irish households now pay the highest household electricity price in the EU — about ~40c/kWh, around 40% above the EU average (Eurostat, H2 2025). Every unit your roof generates is a unit you no longer buy at that price, and the home grant is confirmed at €1,800 for 2026 with reductions planned from 2027.
Where do you fit?
Three very different buildings, three different designs
A house, a factory and a dairy shed use electricity in completely different patterns — and that pattern, more than anything else, decides what a good system looks like.

About Lumen Solar
Solar is what we do — and it is all we do
We started out as Lumen Engineering in 2013 and have been designing and installing solar PV in Ireland ever since.
In that time we have worked on domestic rooftops, commercial and industrial roofs, farm buildings and community projects. What has not changed is the approach: understand the building and the load first, specify equipment second, and be honest when solar is not the right answer for a particular property.
We are a single team from first survey through to aftercare. Nothing is handed to a subcontractor once the contract is signed, which is why there is never any confusion about who you call.
And we would genuinely rather you called in than filled in a form: our office and showroom are in Blyry Business Park in Athlone, the kettle works, and you can put your hands on the actual panels, inverters and batteries before you decide anything.

Why Lumen Solar
What actually makes the difference
Most solar installers quote similar equipment at similar prices. The variation is in the design work before it and the accountability after it.
Designed for the best financial payback
People go solar for financial reasons, so that is what we design for. Every system is custom-designed around your bills, your usage pattern and your roof to deliver the strongest payback — and we show you the calculation before you commit.
Genuinely local, genuinely available
Our office, showroom and crews are in Blyry Business Park, Athlone. Call in and talk your system through over a coffee — or we come to you. Either way, you are not waiting on a team routed in from elsewhere.
Registered and accountable
SEAI-registered solar PV company, registered electrical contractor and Solar Ireland member. The registrations that let you claim a grant, and that you can verify independently.
The grant, guided from start to finish
We check eligibility, guide you through the SEAI application and handle the installer, grid-notification and completion documents — including getting the sequencing right so a valid claim is not lost on a technicality.
One company, start to finish
Design, installation, commissioning and servicing are all done by our own in-house crews — we do not subcontract installations. No handover to a third party, and no ambiguity about who you call.
Here for the whole system life
Trading since 2013. Solar is a thirty-year-plus asset — it matters that whoever installs it is still around to service it.
Simple process
How it works
Four steps from first phone call to a system generating on your roof. We handle the parts that are usually the headache.
Talk to us
Call us or send an enquiry. We ask about your building, your bills and what you want solar to do — before anyone talks about panels.
Free site survey
An engineer visits, assesses your roof, shading and electrical setup, and designs a system sized to your actual consumption.
Grant & installation
We guide you through the grant application and handle the installer and grid-notification paperwork, then install and commission the system with as little disruption as possible.
Generate & monitor
Your system goes live, you can see what it produces from your phone, and we stay available for servicing and support.
Grants
Grant support available right now
We guide the application and handle the installer paperwork as part of the job. Below is what the three main schemes are worth — and the conditions that actually decide whether you qualify.
Homeowners
€1,800maximum grant
SEAI Solar PV Grant
Paid at €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp, then €200 per additional kWp up to 4 kWp.
Home must have been built and occupied before 1 January 2021.
Businesses & community
€162,600maximum grant
SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme
Supports non-domestic systems up to 1000 kWp. Rates are tiered — the per-kWp rate steps down as the system gets larger.
Open to businesses, farms, schools, public bodies and non-profits.
Farms
€54,000maximum grant
Solar Capital Investment Scheme (SCIS) under TAMS 3
Grant-aided at 60% against a ring-fenced investment ceiling of €90,000. Systems supported up to 62 kWp.
Administered by the Department of Agriculture, not SEAI.
Coverage
Where we work
We are based in Blyry Business & Commercial Park, Athlone — so the Midlands is our own patch rather than a territory we travel to. Our crews work across 16 counties, and further afield for larger commercial and farm projects.
Being nearby decides how quickly we can get to a survey, and how quickly we can get back to you if something needs attention three years after commissioning.
CSRD After the Omnibus: Who Reports Now
The EU's Omnibus directive rewrote sustainability reporting in 2026. Who is still in scope for CSRD, from when, and where on-site solar genuinely helps.
