Ballinasloe sits on the River Suck at the eastern edge of Galway and serves a large agricultural hinterland. The October fair is the best-known expression of that, but day to day it means a town of marts, agri-suppliers, veterinary services, and food and feed businesses, all built around farming in east Galway and south Roscommon.
Most of that farming is drystock and sheep with dairy in pockets, and the farm buildings match: substantial sheds, storage and handling facilities with large unbroken roof planes. For a farm business weighing up solar, those buildings are usually a better starting point than the farmhouse.
